I’m trying to figure out how to show hidden files on my Mac. What’s the proper way to reveal them, and are there any shortcuts or settings I should know about? Any guidance or suggestions would be really helpful.

On a Mac: click on Finder, then visit the folder that you think may contain some hidden files and then use Command + Shift + . (period) and you will see hidden files. To hide them once more, you can have them switched off. This assists you in locating files that normally are not visible such as system files and files that begin with a period.

To show hidden files on a Mac, open Finder and press Command + Shift + Period (.). Hidden files will instantly appear, slightly transparent. Press the same shortcut again to hide them. You can also enable them using Terminal by typing defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles true then restarting Finder.
