I’m having trouble opening an Excel file because it keeps showing the message “The file couldn’t open in Protected View.” I’m not sure what’s causing this or how to fix it. Could anyone suggest steps or solutions to help me open the file normally?

To resolve the error of the “Excel file could not be opened in Protected View the first one is to deactivate the Protected View in the Trust Center in the Excel then deblock the file by using the properties of the file or by adding the folder of the file to the Trusted Locations. The problem can also be solved by performing an update of the Excel, repairing of an Office, or clearing the temporary files to fix the problem fast.

Try these fixes: Right-click the file, go to Properties, and check the "Unblock" box under the Security section.

If that fails, disable Protected View: Go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Protected View and uncheck all options, then click OK. You can also try repairing your Office installation.

To fix the Excel “couldn’t open in Protected View” error, go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Protected View, then uncheck relevant options, save changes, and reopen the file. Ensure the file is from a trusted source.
