How to Clear Cache on Computer?

I’m looking for help on how to clear the cache on my computer. What’s the proper way to do it, and are there different steps for various browsers or system types? Any tips or suggestions would be really appreciated.

In Windows, this can be done both through your browser ( Settings Privacy Clear browsing data ), or by using the Disk Cleanup (search Disk Cleanup, pick drive, make sure Temporary files is selected and run). On Mac it is possible to empty browser cache in the same way or just open Finder and then in Go to Go to Folder and use the path of the app cache folder and delete the things in the specific folders (nevertheless, be careful and take an earlier backup).

• Windows:
  • Press Windows + R, type %temp%, delete all files.
  • Open browser → Settings → Clear browsing data → Cache.
• Mac:
  • Press Shift + Command + G, type ~/Library/Caches, delete folders.
  • Clear browser cache from browser settings.

Clear Cache on Windows (Browser + System)​

1. Clear Browser Cache (Chrome, Edge, Firefox)​

For Chrome:

1. Open Chrome
2. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete
3. Choose Cached images and files
4. Select Time range → “All time” (recommended)
5. Click Clear data

For Edge / Firefox – Same shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + Delete, then clear cache.

2. Clear Temporary System Files​

1. Press Windows + R
2. Type temp → press Enter
3. Delete all files
4. Again press Windows + R
5. Type %temp% → press Enter
6. Delete all files
7. Open Run again
8. Type prefetch → press Enter
9. Delete files

3. Clear Cache Using Disk Cleanup​

1. Click Start → type Disk Cleanup
2. Select your system drive (C:)
3. Check boxes like:
   
   • Temporary files
   • Thumbnails
   • Downloaded program files
4. Click OK → Delete files
   

1. Clear Browser Cache (Safari / Chrome)​

Safari:

1. Go to Safari → Settings
2. Open Advanced
3. Enable Show Develop menu
4. Go to Develop in menu bar
5. Click Empty Caches

Chrome on Mac:
Press Command + Shift + Delete → clear cache.

2. Clear System Cache Manually​

1. Open Finder
2. Press Shift + Command + G
3. Type: ~/Library/Caches
4. Open each folder and delete files inside
