Before reinstalling Windows 11, back up important files to an external drive or cloud storage, verify Windows activation, and note any software license keys. For most users, the safest option is Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC → Keep my files, which reinstalls Windows while preserving personal files. After installation, run Windows Update and restore any backed-up data if needed.

- Open Settings → System → Recovery.
- Under Recovery options, click Reset PC.
- Select Keep my files.
- Choose:
- Cloud download (downloads a fresh copy of Windows; recommended if internet is reliable).
- Local reinstall (uses files already on your PC).

If you want to reinstall Windows 11 without losing important files, use the built-in Reset this PC option and choose Keep my files. It reinstalls Windows while keeping your personal documents, pictures, and other user files, though you'll need to reinstall apps afterward. I still recommend backing up anything important first, just to be safe, since unexpected issues can happen during any reinstall process.

- Back up files first to external drive/OneDrive.
- Go to Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC.
- Choose Keep my files. It reinstalls Windows but keeps documents/photos; apps/settings may be removed.
- Avoid Remove everything unless fully backed up.
