How Do I Dual Boot Linux with Windows?

I'm interested in trying Linux but don't want to remove Windows from my PC. Has anyone set up a dual-boot system with Linux and Windows? I'd appreciate any tips, recommended guides, or things to avoid before getting started.

I dual-booted Linux and Windows a couple of years ago, and it worked well once everything was set up. My biggest recommendation is to back up your important files first and create free disk space for Linux. Following a step-by-step guide for your chosen Linux distribution makes the process much easier.

I recently installed Ubuntu alongside Windows and found the setup easier than expected. The installer handled most of the partitioning automatically. Just make sure Secure Boot and BIOS settings are compatible before starting. Having the recovery disk for Windows is another safety step one could take.

One can always try dual booting when experimenting with Linux and not wanting to leave Windows behind. Prior to installation, it’s worth checking hardware compatibility and saving important files to the disk. Making a bootable USB drive and studying the particular guide beforehand is highly advised too.

I’ve been running a dual-boot setup for quite some time. The key is to install Windows first and Linux second, since Linux usually detects Windows and configures the boot menu automatically. Take your time with disk partitioning because that’s where most beginners make mistakes.
