When my hard drive went kaput, I tried out a data recovery agent, and I found it to be generally successful. First off, they evaluate the drive, explaining how likely the recovery will be before moving forward. Not cheap by any means, but they got most of the files back that were needed.

I'm looking into hiring a data recovery agent to help recover some important lost files. Has anyone used a data recovery agent before, and what was your experience like?

When I had an issue where the computer could no longer detect the drive, I hired a data recovery specialist. It took about a week, but they got almost everything back from my drive. When it comes down to it, price and success rate should both be considered.

Data recovery agents can be very helpful if the lost files are important to you. One such time was for me when I accidentally lost business documents on my personal computer. The agent I went to was straightforward about what would happen and didn't disappoint.

While I've never had to use a data recovery agent personally, a co-worker of mine recently did when he experienced trouble with an external drive. It comes down to selecting the right, well-reviewed service provider with a clear process and estimated cost before doing any work.
